Tea and coffee estates, once sole symbols of regional prosperity, are increasingly recognized as primary drivers of: Massive deforestation. Wildlife displacement. Severe ecological imbalance. It is high time we prioritize restoring hilly jungles and building a sustainable balance between ecology and human settlement.

Tea and coffee estates have scarred India’s hills, replacing forests with monocultures and displacing elephants, gaur, and countless species. While tea plantations create “green deserts” that erode soil and pollute streams, sun‑grown coffee also drives deforestation. Yet shade‑grown coffee offers hope — preserving biodiversity, reducing erosion, and restoring native forests.
